Youth Water Athletics
$50 per swimmer or diver; $33 with City
resident credit
June 30-July 31 (5 weeks), Monday thru
Friday
Each week, swimmers will be introduced to
a new swim stroke and then compete each
Thursday with other swimmers in their age
group, along with a dive competition.
Program offered at Kennedy and Marcus
Pools.
Prerequisite: Must be ages 5-14 and
ability to swim 25 yards.
Diving: ages 8-
14 and comfortable in deep water.
“Kennedy” diving meets from 4:00 pm
– 5:00 pm and swimming meets from 5:00
pm – 6:00 pm.
“Marcus” swimming meets from 11:00
am – 12:00 noon, and diving meets from
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Diving is limited to
15 participants at each pool. Weekly dive
competition will be held at Marcus Pool on
Thursday evenings at 4:30 pm and swim
competitions will be from 5:00 pm –
7:00 pm. (No class on July 4th).

Adapted Aquatics
May 27-August 31 (No class on July 4th)

A structured exercise
program for individuals who are
overweight, arthritic, or with physical or
mental disabilities. Offered at Carver
Pool, Monday thru Friday, from 11:00 am

Arizona Physicians IPA to encourage
people to swim for exercise.
“Beat the Heat” Family Night at the Pool
Fridays, June 20 thru August 1
6:15 pm – 7:45 pm
Bring the whole family to Kennedy Pool
for a refreshing dip in the pool. These
evenings are set-aside for families. All
youth under 17 years of age must be
accompanied by a parent or adult guardian
at all times. Regular open swim fees apply.
Aqua Fitness Aerobics
Session I: June 9 thru July 3
Session II: July 7 thru July 31
$32 per session; $21 with City resident
credit
Class will be held at Marcus Pool from
8:00 pm – 8:45 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Thursdays. Aqua fitness takes the
aerobic/fitness benefits of aquatic exercise
and extends them to everyone, even nonswimmers.
Sandshark Summer Swim Team
This eight week program is a GREAT way
to get involved in competitive swimming!
The Sandsharks (a division of the Yuma
Heat) are members of the Imperial
Valley Swim League (IVSL), a summer
recreational swimming organization that
includes teams from Yuma and California’s
Imperial Valley. Weekday dual meets
and weekend invitationals provide plenty
of competition for those new to the sport.
The $125 cost includes IVSL registration,
team fees, and a Sandshark T-shirt. For

Yuma Heat
The road to the Olympics starts with the
“Yuma Heat”. Yuma’s only year round
USA Swim Team offers competitive
and fitness swimming for ages 4 thru
adult. Practices are Monday thru Friday
afternoon and evening. Fees range from
$55 to $75 per month depending on the
swimmer’s age and skill level. For more

Participants must be
experienced swimmers. Permission forms
and a physical release from a physician are
needed prior to the class. Forms available
at the Parks and Recreation office. Class
space is limited. In this exciting
program, you will learn about
the world of sharks, coral
reefs, and whales while
protecting their underwater
environment. After that, you
will experience the thrill of
scuba diving in the pool, under
the supervision of certified
SCUBA Instructors. This
just might be your start as a
great oceanographer like Jacques
Cousteau! (Pre-registration required)
Open Water Scuba Diver Program
So, you want to be a scuba diver? Are you
tired of being left out of all the great fun
and adventure? Look no further. Explore
shipwrecks, swim with fish, whales and
dolphins and become one with nature.
This class involves academic study,
learning skills in the safety of a confined
water environment (pool), and then dive in
a real open-water setting (ocean or lake).
Upon completion of this class, you will
be awarded a PADI Open Water Diver
certification card, a credential recognized
all over the world by dive stores, diving
resorts, and dive charter operators.
All classroom activity will be held at the
Riverside Cottage Outdoor Education
Center, and pool sessions will
be held at Kennedy Pool.
Dates and locations of
Open Water dives will be
determined during class.
You will need to provide
your own personal gear
which includes mask,
snorkel, fins, and
booties. All other
equipment and study
material will be provided.
We will discuss this more at
your dive orientation meeting.
Tuition $299.00
Minimum age 15
Included: Open Water Course Manual,
Open Water DVD (Loaner), BCD,
Regulator, Weights, Exposure Suit and
Tanks.
Not Included: Personal Gear (Mask Fins

Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver
Program
The Advanced class provides an excellent
opportunity to expand your diving
skills under professional, experienced
supervision. After your classroom sessions
and five instructor-led dives, you’ll be
more experienced, feel more comfortable
in the water and simply enjoy diving more
because you understand the underwater
environment more fully.
Pre-requisites: You must have successfully
completed an Open Water Diver
certification. The Advanced Open Water
certification class features: Two classroom
sessions followed by, five Advanced
Dives, including Deep Dive, Underwater
Navigation Dive and three of the following:
Boat Dive, Night Dive, Enriched Air
Dive, Multilevel & Computer Dive, Peak
Performance Buoyancy, Search and
Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Wreck
Dive.
Students receive an Advanced Open Water
Diver textbook and an Instructor will guide
you through the classroom sessions. All
five dives are Instructor accompanied as
you complete the skills that will make
you a safer and more competent diver. An
Advanced Open Water Diver certification
card which is recognized all over the world
by dive stores, diving resorts and dive
charter operators.
Advanced students will need to provide
all their
equipment.
Equipment

also responsible for all trip costs (travel out
of town), air or enriched air fills, boat or
dive charter fees.
All classroom activity will be held at the

Yuma Jaycees to host the Water Carnival.
Water Safety Instructor Course
June 23-July 3
Carver Pool, 7:00 am – 11:00 am
$138; $107 with City resident credit
This course provides students with
the knowledge and skills to teach the
fundamentals swimming and lifesaving.
Pre-requisite: Age 16 and over, able to
swim 300 yards using the breaststroke,
sidestroke, and front and back crawl.
Life Guard Training Today
June 9-June 20, 7:00 am – 11:00 am
$110; $91 with City resident credit
All swimming and classroom instruction
will be done at Carver Pool (5th St & 13th
Ave).
Prerequisite: Ages 15 and up and able
to swim 300 yards using the breaststroke,
sidestroke and freestyle or crawl stroke.
Provides skills and knowledge needed to
become well-trained, effective lifeguards
for pools and no-surf beaches.
Family “Dive-In” Movie Nights
