Youth Classes

Kindermusik Demo Days
June 3 or June 14. $10 per child.
Ages 0-3 years: 9:00 am – 9:30 am

Art Exploration

Explore the world through the study of art from Asia, South America, and the Polynesian Islands.

Art Smart Camp

Tuesdays – Fridays, June 10-20
Ages 6-16, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Art Camp will include painting, drawing, creative exploration, and messy masterpieces.

Beginning Trumpet
$77; $51 with City resident credit
Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 10-August 14
Ages 10+, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Students are required to provide their own instrument, valve oil, and purchase the book, “The Standard of Excellence Class Book – for Beginner Trumpet Players” – Red Copy” from the instructor. Students will perform a recital on August 14 at 6:00 pm in the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Summer Youth Theater: “Seussical Jr”
$137; $91 with City resident credit
Mondays-Thursdays, June 23-July 31
Ages 8-18,
Acting rehearsals from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, and music and dance rehearsals from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. One hour lunch break will be given at 12:00 pm daily to allow instructors to prepare for afternoon rehearsals. Please provide lunch for your child each day. Performances will be on Friday, August 1 at 6:00 pm and Sunday, August 3 at 2:00 pm in the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Teen Pottery
$70; $46 with City resident credit
Ages 14-18,
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Wednesdays, June 25-July 30
Fee includes 5 pounds of clay and firing fees. Additional clay is available for purchase. Students will learn the basics of working with clay, including pinch, coil, slab and hand throwing techniques.

Advanced Guitar
$25; $16 with City resident credit
Saturdays, July 12-August 16
Ages 8+, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Please call the Yuma Art Center at 373-5202 to register for an audition time. Students will perform a recital on August 16 at 3:00 pm in the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Beginning Guitar
$47; $30 with City resident credit
Wednesdays and Fridays, July 9-August 15
Ages 8+, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Students must supply their own guitar and book, “Mel Bay’s Modern Guitar Book, Method, Grade 1,” which is available in any of the local music stores. Students will perform a recital on August 16 at 3:00 pm in the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Intermediate Guitar
$47; $30 with City resident credit
Wednesdays and Fridays, July 9-August 15
Ages 8+, 5:45 pm – 6:45 pm
This class is a continuation of the skills introduced in “Mel Bay’s Modern Guitar Book, Method, Grade 1,” which is available in any of the local music stores. Students will perform a recital on August 16 at 3:00 pm in the Historic Yuma Theatre.

Family Friday
$20; $13 with City resident credit (per family), up to 2 children. $5.00 for each additional child

Stamping the World

Using rubber stamps and a variety of painting techniques, kids will learn how to make cards, book covers, and other items embellished with bits and pieces of fun stuff!

Peekaboo, I Love You
$66; Materials: $35
Ages 0-18 months. 9:00 am – 9:45 am
Saturdays, June 28-August 2 (no class 7/5) or Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8-July 22 Uncover ways to say “I love you” using American Sign Language, bubbles, star sponges, and parent-baby dances. Meet other infants and families and learn how music improves the child development process. Materials include: book, CD, instrument, and activity poster.

Creatures in My Backyard
$85; Materials: $35
Ages 18 months-4 years
Saturdays, June 28-August 2 (no class 7/5) 10:00 am – 11:00 am or Tuesday-Saturdays, July 8-July 12 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am Your child will discover fun things to sing about in the backyard. Run and jump in rain puddles made from hula hoops. Snack on whole wheat mini-waffles dipped in honey, just like a real honeycomb. Shoo real flies and sing “Shoo Fly.” Home materials include: CD, bunny puppet, pictures, folders set, and poster.

Confetti Days
$85; Materials: $40
Ages 4-5 years. 11:15 am – 12:15 pm
Saturdays, June 28-August 2 (no class 7/5) or Tuesday-Saturday, July 8-July 12
Throw a new party every day. Ride a carousel and play a balancing game. Learn colors and sing the Spanish song “De Colores.” Home materials include: CD, pair of confetti bells, and story kit.

Adult Classes

High Fire and Raku Pottery
$62; $41 with City resident credit
Ages 14-Adult.
Wednesdays, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Session 1: May 14-June 18
Session 2: June 25-July 30
Additional fees for clay, glazes, and firing, determined by individual need.

Latin Ballroom Dance
$5 registration fee payable to the Yuma Art Center plus $40 per session payable to the instructor at the first class.
