Copy Editor

Are you looking for something different? The Sun in Yuma, Arizona, has a full-time opportunity in our Editorial Department, for a hard working, energetic person, who is not afraid to step-up to the challenge and learn new things. The successful candidate will be responsible for editing locally produced and wire services copy for use in Sun publications. This associate will be cross-trained in page design so as to be able to fill-in as necessary.

Our candidate must have either a Bachelor's degree in journalism or English or an equivalent education. Related work experience is also desirable, along with the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction in English. The candidate must also be able to handle all tools of the position, work effectively and pleasantly within and with other departments and be able to work both day and night shifts.

Photographer

The Sun in Yuma, Arizona has an opening for a staff photographer. Potential candidates should be skilled in breaking news, spot news, feature and sports photography. The Sun, Yuma County’s award-winning community newspaper, is committed to high-quality enterprise journalism that combines the best reporting and storytelling with engaging images, both still and video. Our photographers are expected to be full contributors to the idea process that drives the newspaper's coverage. They must be able to create eye-catching, cleanly composed and story telling page one quality images that are not routine. The must know how to use a digital camera, download digital images, gather information and write accurate cutlines. Photojournalism degree desirable and photographic experience is required. Video experience and video reporting is desirable.

Inserter

PT position working the night shift at approximately 20-25 hours per wk working 10pm – 4am. This position prepares inserts/packages for insertion into The Sun and other publications and readies for distribution. Must be available for all days of the week, and possible long and/or split shifts. This position requires long periods of standing, twisting, and lifting upwards of 50 lbs. and minimum of 18 yrs of age is required.

Niche Product Coordinator

This position has the responsibility of administering and supervising the timely distribution of niche products at retail stores, homes delivery and targeted market areas. Our candidate will contract, train the independent delivery force, and maintain circulation reports and current database for the daily fluctuations that occur. This person will be highly involved in the customer service aspect of insuring timely delivery of our niche products. Our chosen candidate will also be responsible for handling carrier issues, including delivering bundles, down routes, missed papers, shortages and supplies of our niche products. Other duties include coordinating sales and service contests for carriers, maintaining racks, returns of product and developing strategies regarding programs to increase points of purchase, product recovery and developing market areas.

To be considered for the job, our candidate must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid Arizona driver’s license, able to lift objects of at least 50 pounds, able to work weekend, afternoon and mornings. They must have a commitment to customer service and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Prior managerial experience is helpful for this position.

Ad Designer

Part-time position at our Bajo El Sol office in San Luis, Arizona. Our ideal candidate will electronically design/build ads with Macintosh software before respective deadlines. Will also do page layout of weekly and special sections. Scans artwork and maintains logs for record purposes. Macintosh experience desired. Familiarity with platforms such as Quark, Illustrator, Photo-shop and Ad Speed a plus. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under deadline pressure a must. Bi-lingual in English and Spanish. High school graduate or GED preferred.

Circulation Assistant
